Are Foreign Women Really Different?

Nearly every man who has stumbled across an ad for one of the numerous mail order bride sites has wondered: Are foreign women really different? Obviously, the correct answer to that is, to paraphrase Bill Clinton, "That depends on what the definition of different is."

The foreign women who sign up with international dating sites have the same needs and desires as all women. They are looking for a good husband who can provide for their physical safety and security, but also for love, respect, and intimacy.

However, these foreign women did not grow up in the United States, Canada, the European Union, or Western country. They probably grew up in Eastern Europe during final death rattle of the Soviet Union and the subsequent political and economic upheaval in the years since or perhaps they grew up in Asia during the amazing economic boom of the last thirty years. The point is that they did not grow up in a stable, secure environment. So, it shouldn't be surprising that stability and security are listed again and again as important factors for women profiled on mail order bride sites. Given the history of their countries of origin it would be surprising if that was not the case.

In fact, the only differences between Western women and the beautiful Russian women, sexy Ukrainian girls, and hot Filipinas signing up at mail order bride sites is the history and the culture of their natives lands. Otherwise, the pretty Russian college student is no different than her first cousin whose parents moved to Chicago before she was born, except she grew up in Moscow, and the sexy Filipina waitress whose family has all been born and bred in Los Angeles County since just after World War II is a real All-American girl. The differences are exclusively a matter of history and cultural and much less important that the commonalities.

Sure, a Filipina might be more hesitant to get a divorce if you are a jerk and a Russian woman might not be concerned about you drinking on a scale that would worry any good Southern Baptist girl, but foreign women want respect, concern, devotion, and love as much as any group of women. A man would be wise to read as much about the history and culture of his bride's homeland as he possibly can, because that is the only difference between her and Western women. The basic desires for love, respect, and security are universal, and, frankly, if you meet those needs you and your mail order bride will almost certainly have a long happy marriage, regardless of cultural issues.

So, yes, there are cultural differences between Western women and foreign brides, but those differences are a small, often very small, part of a woman's overall make-up. Of course, some men who are happily married to women they met through international dating sites would smile and answer, "Yes, but the icing is only a small part of the cake."
